Sunset at the Glades

We had great fun earlier this winter on an airboat tour through the Everglades with 'Captain Gerald' who owns a home 6 miles in on a small island.  The scenery is amazing - remote and quiet.  We got to catch the sunset before loading back onto the boats for the trip through the twilight back to the docks.

This is another from our weekend trip to see family staying in central Florida.  Hot light and sunny Sunday afternoons.  This is a canal that cuts through Florida near their place.

This is from a photo I took some time ago in Florida-great reflections with the morning sun on the boats.  The board for this one is a 3/8" Masonite panel that has some texture.  A nice change.  Sometimes I don't like the smooth surface and the way the paint applies.

Again inspired by Steven Pressfield's book, The War of Art, I decided to show up at the easel and do the work- paint and breathe- play with values, light,heat, hue.  I am headed off to Florida for four days of respite from the heavy snows here.  Ahh....

It is a snow day here- day two of blizzard cleanup.  What better subject to paint than sunny Florida!  I had some really relaxed fun with this today.  I am reading the book The War of Art and learning about battling resistance by just doing the work-showing up each day.  I learn this lesson time and time again lately.  The results are just joy and a real sense of completion.  Hope you enjoy this one too!

I am looking at the light patterns of the strong Florida sunshine and also trying to capture the vibrant greens and the different foliage of the region.  It is zero degrees today in Boston, so it is really nice to work on something warm and welcoming!

Winter Wonderland

A nearby gallery put out a call for paintings with the theme of 'winter'.  Their description was for ideas not only reflecting snowy scenes but perhaps darkness, struggle, etc.  You get the idea.  Well, I am not submitting but it did get me thinking.  When we think of winter, perhaps we might just imagine 'snowbirds'.  My sister is a snowbird, leaving the north country before November begins and returning when the snow melts.  She has so much fun all winter with her southern friends.  This would be a typical winter scene in Ft. Lauderdale and the other east Florida coastline towns.  Winter-  now there's a nice thought!
