At Rest

This has been a totally restful weekend.  The weather on Cape Cod has been unusually cool this summer and so we find ourselves with temps near 70 on this late August weekend when we would typically be mid-80's and on the beach.  Last night we had a great fire in the fire pit under the night stars.  Today lots of quiet studio time.  I am working on boats- not easy but I like them, see them often and these little dinghys caught my eye.  More to come!

Boatyards

I love boatyards.  They are full of possibilities and interesting people and items.  This is a scene I came across in Osterville,Ma on the Cape early one morning.  I liked the size and scale of this large boat against the building and the way the sun played on both.  You wonder who sails this boat?  Where to?  is it a family?  What great adventures they must have.  Right now it is in a state of waiting, but soon it will head out to sea.  Nice thoughts on a  nice morning.

Florida On my Mind

This is the 8x8 I played with on Friday night.  Very fun. I love palm trees, but they are not the easiest to do without cliche'.  I want to do some larger pieces, but will play small for a bit with these.  Enjoying thoughts of the tropics.

Friday Night Lights

Mid-August.  Summer has flown by at breakneck speed and I find myself gulping in these last weekends in deep breaths, hoping to slow the clock somehow- add just a bit more summer.  It has been a season of people- great friends, family, some newly added to our already full basket of blessings.  Tonight I am in my little magic studio- twinkle lights ablaze, Pandora on the Nora Jones station (great).  I took this pic from the yard to give you a sense for what an evening with a glass of wine, music, and paint can be.  Memorable.  Tomorrow I will post the little palm tree piece I am working on tonight.  Sheer joy.

Celebrate Me Home

The past two weeks have been filled with family and friends.  As we drove through the early morning hours yesterday heading from northwest Ohio, my home, toward Boston, my adult home, I just had to drink it in.  Being from the Midwest is a point of pride.  The skies are big and the fields flat.  The people are as honest and straightforward as they come - no pretense- just real.  My family is an amazing clan of blonds- youngest 3 weeks- oldest .....70's.  Each year I get a brief gulp of real down home life.  It is a treasure.  I thought I might spend a few sketches trying to capture what captures me every time.

Work in Progress

This is one I am working on a bit.  I like this scene at a boatyard in Osterville.  This week I haven't been in my Cape studio.  Adventures with family have brought us back to Boston and to PA and now on to see family in Ohio.  I can't wait to see the broad flat farm fields of my hometown, spend time with family and friends.  A week will fly by.  This has been a great week for me- enlightening and encouraging.  It is so nice to feel some joy at my core again.  Turning into August I am excited for the days and weeks ahead!
