Provincetown Wharf

8x8 Oil on Stretched Canvas

And yet one more!  I am very pleased with this one, painted early one morning this week.  I've always liked yellows and the sun on the old Main Street storefront just glowed.  The flags, too, are a sure identifier of the town -always festive and never boring!

Provincetown Wanderings

8x8 Oil on Stretched Canvas.  SOLD

We travelle d to P-town for a date this weekend- great street scenes- wonderful people watching- loads of wonderful galleries.  I had a chance to visit the Anne Packard gallery- one of my all time favorite Cape artists.  Her work is amazing, evoking all that is wonderful about Cape Cod and Provincetown in particular.  I found myself feeling honored to be a painter- to share in some minuscule and remote way this craft with someone who is so talented in ways I can never hope to approach.  Still, we paint.  All of us who do can share in the joy of color and challenge and light and shadow.  We can see the world in different perspectives and notice details in the life around us.   Grateful on this Sunday morning.

Cape Marsh '16

24 x 30 Oil on Stretched Canvas. SOLD

I decided to work on this large piece from a small sketch I had completed some time ago.  My summer goal is to complete several larger works in hopes of beginning to approach galleries and perhaps mount a show.  I love this journey!

Red Boat

8x8 Oil on Panel.        SOLD

I finally finished this little piece and I am happy with it.  It conveys what I had hoped to convey- a bright summer morning on the docks and a nice surprise of a colorful small sailboat at the end of the pier.  I had been out early and the gentleman in charge of the marina at Crosby's Landing allowed me to walk out on each leg to see the boats and enjoy the morning. It was quiet and beautiful.  All to say, this one brings back the emotion of a Saturday just a couple of weeks ago.  Fall begins tomorrow and with it a new season.  Here's to a grand summer!

Low Tide

5x7 Oil on Board

A rainy Sunday here- great day to clean out the studio and paint.  This is a scene off Barnstable harbor at low tide with spring still on the way.

Scudder Lane

8x10 Oil on Panel.  SOLD
This is my first plein air effort for the summer!  I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday at a beach off Scudders Lane in Barnstable painting.  I return to this spot because it is quiet and private and just a great place to be.  The new Coulter easel is fabulous- lightweight, easy to set up, stable- perfect!  Can't wait to go again!

Cape Marsh 2

6x6 Oil on Panel

This marsh is actually a continuation of the previous.  It is a favorite place near Barnstable harbor.  As the seasons change, the light and colors change from bright greens of spring and summer to golden and ten a bit flatter in tone as the skies gray and the snows come.

Nantucket Morning

6x6 Oil on Panel
It has been a very busy week already.  We spent a nice weekend on the Cape and returned to our daughter's senior week field hockey game - and a goal!  I finally made it back to the studio this evening and decided to paint this summery scene from a bike trip last year.  A bit out of practice this week, but still painting!
